Cricket doesn't get much more dramatic than this. Jimmy Neesham's nerveless boundary off the final delivery secured Glamorgan's second victory over defending Vitality Blast champions Somerset this season, completing a memorable double in the most thrilling fashion possible at Taunton's Cooper Associates County Ground.

Somerset Set Imposing Target Despite Early Wobble

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Somerset's innings followed a familiar T20 pattern of early fireworks followed by a middle-order collapse. Tom Banton and Josh Thomas raced to a fifty partnership inside five overs, with Banton particularly destructive as he plundered 39 runs including seven boundaries before falling to former teammate Ned Leonard.

The innings appeared to be losing momentum when Somerset slumped from a promising position to 83-4, with Jordan Hermann run out following poor communication and Thomas Rew bowled by Dan Douthwaite for just two runs. However, captain Lewis Gregory had other ideas, smashing his way to a spectacular 24-ball half-century that included four maximums, whilst Tom Abell provided the perfect foil with a composed 41 from 28 deliveries.

Dickson and Tribe Keep Chase on Track

Chasing 203 for victory, Glamorgan's pursuit got off to a blistering start through Kiran Carlson, who launched Craig Overton for six in the opening over before repeating the dose against Josh Shaw. However, the drama was briefly halted when floodlight failure forced a temporary suspension, with play resuming despite one light remaining off.

Sean Dickson's elegant 63 from 36 balls formed the backbone of Glamorgan's reply, whilst Asa Tribe's valuable 48 kept the visitors ahead of the required rate. Both Jake Ball and Daniel Sams claimed two wickets apiece for Somerset, but couldn't prevent the Welsh county from staying in contention heading into the final over.

Floodlight Drama Adds to Last-Over Theatre

The closing stages were interrupted by further electrical problems, creating additional tension as the match hung in the balance. With Glamorgan requiring runs off the final delivery, Neesham held his nerve to find the boundary that sparked wild celebrations amongst the visiting supporters.

This result significantly impacts the Vitality Blast standings, with Glamorgan's double over the defending champions demonstrating their credentials as serious contenders this season. The victory will undoubtedly shift the outright odds, establishing the Welsh county as genuine threats to go all the way in 2024.
