Adrian David Mascarenhas was an English all-rounder who represented England in limited-overs cricket during the mid-2000s. Born in Chiswick to Portuguese parents, Mascarenhas made his mark as a versatile cricketer capable of contributing with both bat and ball. He was particularly effective in the shorter formats of the game, with his medium-pace bowling and aggressive batting style making him a valuable asset in the middle order. Mascarenhas enjoyed a successful county career primarily with Hampshire, where he became a key player and eventual captain. His international career spanned from 2004 to 2009, during which he played 20 ODIs and 27 T20Is for England. While his ODI statistics were modest, he found greater success in T20 cricket, taking 31 wickets at an impressive average of 21.45. His ability to bowl tight overs in the death and provide quick runs down the order made him a popular choice for England's T20 squad. After retiring from international cricket, Mascarenhas continued to play in various T20 leagues around the world, including stints in the Indian Premier League, where his experience and skill in the shortest format were highly valued.
