Azeem Rafiq is an English cricketer who represented Yorkshire County Cricket Club and played for England at various youth levels. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Rafiq moved to England at a young age and developed into a promising spin bowler and lower-order batsman. He made his first-class debut for Yorkshire in 2009 and was appointed as the county's youngest-ever captain at age 22 in 2012. Rafiq's playing career was marked by his effective off-spin bowling, particularly in limited-overs cricket where he claimed 54 wickets across 44 T20 matches at an average of 21.54. While his batting was secondary to his bowling, he contributed useful runs down the order. His Test career was brief, spanning 11 matches with modest returns. Beyond cricket, Rafiq became a prominent figure in discussions about racism in cricket, courageously speaking out about discrimination he experienced during his playing career, leading to significant reforms in English cricket.
