Naeem Stars as Qalandars Set Commanding Total

Mohammad Naeem delivered a masterclass in aggressive batting to propel Lahore Qalandars to an imposing 185-5 from their 13 overs at Gaddafi Stadium. The opener blazed his way to 60 from just 28 deliveries, striking four boundaries and five sixes with a strike rate exceeding 214. His innings formed the backbone of a commanding total that would prove beyond Multan Sultans' reach.

Parvez Hossain Emon provided excellent support with a brisk 45 from 19 balls, maintaining the momentum before falling to Mohammad Ismail. Abdullah Shafique's quickfire 33 from 14 deliveries ensured the run rate never dropped below the required threshold, as the Qalandars capitalised on winning the toss and being put into bat first.

Sultans' Bowling Attack Struggles Under Pressure

Despite Mohammad Ismail's best efforts with figures of 2-47 from his three overs, the Multan Sultans bowling unit failed to contain the Qalandars' explosive batting display. Peter Siddle managed the most economical figures with 1-26 from three overs, but the damage had already been inflicted by the time he was introduced into the attack.

The extras column told its own story of the bowling struggles, with 23 additional runs gifted through wides, no-balls, byes and leg-byes. This generosity proved costly in a format where every run carries significant weight, particularly when defending what seemed a competitive total.

Sultans' Chase Falls Short Despite Turner's Resistance

Chasing 186 for victory, the Multan Sultans never established the required momentum despite Ashton Turner's unbeaten 52 from 23 balls. The Australian captain's valiant knock included five boundaries and two sixes, but lacked sufficient support from his teammates to mount a serious challenge.

Early wickets proved devastating for the Sultans' prospects, with Steve Smith falling for just nine and Josh Philippe managing only twelve before departing. Sahibzada Farhan's 24 provided some stability, but Shan Masood's laboured 44 from 18 deliveries highlighted the mounting pressure as the required rate spiralled beyond reach.

Qalandars' Bowling Unit Seals Comprehensive Victory

Shaheen Shah Afridi led from the front as captain, claiming crucial wickets whilst maintaining pressure throughout the Sultans' innings. Mustafizur Rahman proved equally effective with his variations, picking up key scalps including both Farhan and Shan to derail the chase.

The victory margin of 20 runs flattered the Sultans somewhat, as the Qalandars had controlled proceedings from the moment Naeem began his assault. This result significantly shifts the outright PSL odds, with Lahore now establishing themselves as serious contenders for the title. The comprehensive nature of this performance at their home ground of Gaddafi Stadium will provide tremendous confidence as the tournament progresses, particularly given the clinical manner in which they dismantled a Sultans side containing international stars like Smith and Turner.
