Stubbs may have endured a frustrating campaign in India, but his explosive 42-ball knock reminded everyone of his destructive capabilities. From 80-3 at the halfway stage, few would have predicted Hampshire reaching 200, but Stubbs' calculated aggression combined with Cartwright's supporting role proved the difference between a defendable total and a commanding position.
Currie Completes the Victory
Essex's chase never gained momentum as Hampshire's bowling attack, led by Scott Currie's career-best figures of 4-18, systematically dismantled their batting lineup. Chris Wood set the tone during the powerplay, removing Paul Walter courtesy of a spectacular diving catch from Vince and following up by bowling Matt Critchley.
Currie maintained the pressure, claiming the crucial wicket of Michael Pepper at the long-on boundary to leave Essex struggling at 41-3.
